Month of Shravan 

Shravan is the fifth month of the Hindu calendar. The month of Shravan is very important for the entire sub-continent of India as it is connected to the arrival of the South-West monsoons.
Shravan dates are different in different parts of India is because Maharashtrians and South Indians follow an Amavasya calendar which starts from Amavasya (No Moon) where the Krishna paksha comes first, followed by Shukla paksha.

Dates in the month of Shravan 2020 in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Bihar and Jharkhand are as follows:

July 6 - First Day of Shravan 2020 (First Monday)
July 13 - Second Monday
July 20 - Third Monday
July 27 - Fourth Monday
August 3 - Last day of Shravan

Whereas in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu:

July 21 (Tuesday) - First day of Shravan 2020
July 27 - First Monday
August 3 - Second Monday
August 10 - Third Monday
August 17 - Fourth Monday
August 19 - Last day of Shravan

Significance of Shravan

As Shravan is month of monsoon, it’s believed Lords Shiva comes down from Kailash Parvat for trial of earth and its creatures. 

For many Hindus, the month of Shravan is a month of fasting. Many Hindus will fast every Monday to the Lord Shiva and/or every Tuesday to the Goddess Parvati. Fasting on Tuesdays of this month is known as "Mangala Gauri Vrat”

The Mangal Gauri Vrata is done by married women during this month for the health and prosperity of their households.

Do's and Don’ts of Shravan Vrat (fasting)

Do's
1. Wake up early in the morning. Bath and wear light colored clothes (white is considered auspicious)
2. Devote fasting to please Lord Shiva.
3. Offer bilva patra Panchamrut which is consist of mixture of milk, ghee, honey, curd and ganga jal.
4. Do Shiv Mantras' Jaap 108 times 
ॐ त्र्यम्बकं यजामहे
सुगन्धिं पुष्टिवर्धनम् ।
उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनान्
मृत्योर्मुक्षीय मामृतात् ॥
Om Try-Ambakam Yajaamahe
Sugandhim Pusstti-Vardhanam
Urvaarukam-Iva Bandhanaan
Mrtyor-Mukssiiya Maa-[A]mrtaat ||

OR 

ॐ नमः शिवाय 
Om Namah Shivay ||


Don'ts
1. Avoiding the trait of abstinence (especially alcohol and non veg meals)
2. Avoid vulgarity and practice of celibacy.
3. Don't cut or shave your hair during this month.
4. Don't break your fast in between.
